
Snowmobiling

The Northumberland County Forest is a celebrated space for recreation in our community. The Forest has an extensive network of recreational trails, including 47 kilometres of trail designated for motorized sports like snowmobiling.

Guidelines for safe snowmobiling in the County Forest
- Trails are open to snowmobilers – when there is enough snow to be groomed by the Great Pine Ridge Snowmobile Association (GPRSA) – from November 1 to March 31.
- Snowmobilers must have an Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs membership to use the forest trails.
- The local club for the OFSC is Great Pine Ridge Snowmobile Association.
- Riders must be plated, insured and comply with all applicable provincial and municipal laws.
- Snowmobiling in Ontario is governed by provincial legislation, commonly referred to as the Motorized Snow Vehicles Act of Ontario or MSVA.
- Please respect private property and other users of the Forest.
- Snowmobiles must not operate at speed greater than 50 kilometres per hour.
- Please do not litter.
- Campfires are not permitted.
- Comply with all application laws and by-laws.
The Northumberland O.P.P. and municipal by-law enforcement officers patrol the Northumberland County Forest.
Important notices

Off-trail riding strictly forbidden
Warning: The operation of snowmobiles off of authorized snowmobile trails is strictly prohibited. The County does not inspect, maintain or repair off-trail areas. Visitors who choose to snowmobile off of authorized trails do so at their own risk. Serious injury or death may occur as a result of collisions with objects hidden beneath the snow, ice, ungroomed areas, uneven ground, and other hazards. Please stay on the authorized trails and stay safe!

Parking lots not regularly maintained
Warning: The County does not regularly inspect, maintain or otherwise repair the parking lots within the County Forest during the winter season, (i.e. between October 1 to March 31) and anyone who chooses to use such areas does so at their own risk. Serious injury or death may occur to anyone who chooses to use any parking lot within the County Forest during such times.
