Northumberland OPP Detachment Board
As of April 1, 2024, the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019 replaced the Police Services Act, 1990. The Northumberland OPP Detachment Board was created under this Act. This independent Civilian Oversight Board, with its provincial responsibilities outlined in the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019 (CSPA), is committed to establishing objectives and priorities, ensuring adequate and effective policing in accordance with the needs of Northumberland County. The Board will promote accountability and transparency by acting as the intermediary to the OPP and to the community.
The Northumberland OPP Detachment Board includes representation from the following Municipalities/Townships and First Nations within the County of Northumberland serviced by the Northumberland OPP Detachment.

As set out in the legislation, the Northumberland OPP Detachment Board’s role includes:
- Participating in the selection of the Detachment Commander.
- Determining objectives and priorities for police services after consultation with the Detachment Commander.
- Monitoring the performance of the Detachment Commander.
- Reviewing regular reports from the Detachment Commander regarding policing provided by the Detachment.
- Providing an annual report to the municipalities regarding the policing provided by the Detachment in their municipalities.
