Garbage and Green Bin

Northumberland County provides weekly curbside pickup of household, organics, and garbage, with the exception of the rural ward of Port Hope. Limits and fees are in place for garbage collection.

Recycling is managed by Circular Materials Ontario. Visit the Circular Materials Ontario website for more information.

Please note on statutory holidays, collection bumps to the following day.

What goes where?


Set-out reminders

  • Garbage and green bin(s) placed on snowbanks, will not be collected
  • Have your waste to the roadside by 7:00 a.m. on your regular collection day

Garbage limits and fees

You cannot place more than two bags of garbage at the curb each week. Each bag of garbage must have a bag tag on it.

Waste and recycling centres

In addition to curbside collection, Northumberland County residents may drop off additional waste, including household hazardous and electronic waste, bulky items, recycling and more, at one of our three Community Recycling Centres.

We provide free monthly curbside pickup of leaf and yard waste from mid-April to mid-December.
