Cobourg, ON – September 9, 2026 – The centralized Northumberland Primary Care Recruitment initiative continues to generate results. The County is pleased to announce today that three more physicians have committed to practicing in the region, bringing the total to five new recruits since the beginning of 2026.
This latest recruitment is another important step in the community-wide effort launched last fall to strengthen the local health care network and expand access to primary care for residents across Northumberland.
Earlier this summer, Dr. Uwa Ima-Edomwonyi, who goes by Dr. Uwa, joined the team at Halo Medical Clinic, located in the Port Hope Medical Centre. Originally from Nigeria, Dr. Uwa brings nearly two decades of experience caring for patients in the United Kingdom across primary care and urgent care settings, as well as experience in medical education. He is currently accepting new patients. Residents seeking a family physician are encouraged to register with Health Care Connect to be connected with a primary care provider. Patients may also contact the clinic directly by calling 905-885-8686, by visiting the clinic at Unit 4, 15 Henderson Street, Port Hope, or by joining the waitlist to be contacted for a new patient appointment by following this link: https://www.halomedicalclinic.ca/join-waiting-list. Interested residents are asked to please ensure they select the Port Hope location when completing the registration.
Later this fall, Dr. Mian Muhammad Zain Tufail will assume the practice of Dr. S. Ali at the White Rose Medical Centre in Port Hope. Dr. Tufail completed his medical training in Pakistan before moving to the United Kingdom, where he completed specialty training in General Practice (Family Medicine). Since completing his training, he has worked as a General Practitioner across a range of primary care and urgent care settings.
Dr. Jessica Langevin, originally from Windsor, Ontario, will be joining the Cobourg Medical Centre, part of the Northumberland Family Health Team, later this fall. A graduate of the Mayo Clinic Family Medicine Residency Program in Rochester, Minnesota, Dr. Langevin will work alongside Dr. Kathy Barnard-Thompson as part of the transition to assume Dr. Barnard-Thompson’s practice. Dr. Langevin will also provide clinical services at Northumberland Hills Hospital.
The recruitment of these three physicians reflects the continued collaboration among health care providers, community partners and municipal leadership to attract physicians to Northumberland and support the growth of primary care services throughout the region.
