Northumberland County Announces Temporary Closure of Brook Road North for Infrastructure Work
Cobourg, ON – July 20, 2026 – Northumberland County is advising residents of a temporary full closure of Brook Road North (County Road 20) between Elgin Street East and King Street from July 25 to July 26, 2026.
The closure is required to allow the Town of Cobourg’s contractor to install underground infrastructure for a trunk sanitary sewer as part of the ongoing Cobourg East Community Trunk Servicing Project.
During the closure, Brook Road North will be restricted to local traffic only. Local access will be maintained between Elgin Street East and 675 Brook Road North, and between King Street and 459 Brook Road North. Through traffic will be detoured via D’Arcy Street, with signage in place to guide motorists.
The closure will impact traffic in the area, including emergency services, transit and school transportation providers, local businesses, and residents.
Construction activities are currently underway on Brook Road North, with lane restrictions and lane shifts in effect. Following the full road closure, periodic daytime lane closures will continue as work progresses. The project is expected to be completed by the end of July 2026.
Residents, businesses, and motorists who regularly travel through the area are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time during the closure. Northumberland County will continue to provide updates as the project progresses.
