Brook Road North to close for CN rail crossing upgrades
Cobourg, ON – September 3, 2026 – Northumberland County is advising residents and motorists that Brook Road North (County Road 20) will be fully closed between Elgin Street East and King Street from September 13 to September 18, 2026, to allow Canadian National Railway (CN) to complete upgrades at the Brook Road North rail crossing.
The road is currently open to traffic with alternating lane restrictions in place. A full closure will be required to safely complete the rail crossing work.
During the closure, detours will be in place for passenger vehicles and trucks, with separate designated routes for each. Motorists are asked to follow posted detour signage and allow additional travel time when travelling through the area.
Notifications have been made to emergency services, transit and school transportation providers along Brook Road North in advance of the closure.
Local access will be maintained where possible, with access restrictions and traffic control measures in place around the active construction area. Residents and businesses in the immediate area are encouraged to plan their trips accordingly and follow the direction of traffic control personnel.
Residents and motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, follow posted detour routes and allow extra time for travel during the closure.
