Construction Begins August 10 on Salt Creek Culvert Replacement Project
Cobourg, ON – August 6, 2026 – Northumberland County will begin replacing the Salt Creek culvert on County Road 25, south of Warkworth, on Monday, August 10, 2026, with construction expected to continue through to October.
The project is located on County Road 25 between Gravel Road and Pine Grove Road and is part of the County’s ongoing investment in maintaining safe, reliable transportation infrastructure.
To complete the work safely and efficiently, County Road 25 will be fully closed throughout construction. Signed detour routes will be in place for local traffic and heavy trucks. Residents, businesses, emergency services, school transportation providers, and visitors are encouraged to plan ahead and allow additional travel time.
Work will include:
- Removal of the existing 4-metre-wide, 25-metre-long corrugated steel pipe culvert.
- Installation of a temporary water flow bypass system to maintain creek flow during construction.
- Installation of a new 39-metre-long structural corrugated steel pipe culvert with a concrete cut-off wall.
- Installation of new steel guide rails and restoration of the roadway.
Replacing the culvert will improve the long-term resilience of County Road 25, reduce future maintenance requirements, and help ensure the safe movement of residents, emergency services, agricultural vehicles, commercial traffic, and visitors for decades to come.
Motorists are reminded to obey all construction signage, reduce speeds when approaching work zones, and follow posted detour routes for the safety of workers and the travelling public.
Construction Period: August 10 to October (weather permitting)
Traffic Impacts: Full road closure with signed detour routes for local traffic and heavy trucks.
