Proclamation – World Fair Trade Day, May 9, 2026

“Whereas the Fair Trade Movement celebrates its 80^th anniversary in 2026, and World Fair Trade Day is May 9, 2026; and

Whereas the Fair Trade movement allows agricultural producers, artisans, and workers around the world to build productive and fulfilling lives through fair wages, safe and humane working conditions and sustainable practices; and

Whereas fair trade businesses and organizations provide consumers with opportunities to make responsible, ethical and informed purchasing choices; and

Whereas Northumberland County is home to businesses, organizations, volunteers, and community members who support and promote fair trade principles, including the Ten Thousand Villages store in Cobourg, and who contribute positively to local economic, social, and global well-being;

Now Therefore Be It Resolved That I, Warden Robert Crate, on behalf of Northumberland County Council do hereby proclaim May 9^th, 2026 to be ‘World Fair Trade Day’ in Northumberland County.”
