“Whereas Earth Day, observed annually on April 22, is recognized worldwide as an opportunity to raise awareness of environmental responsibility and the need for sustainable action; and

Whereas communities around the globe, including those in Northumberland County, are experiencing the effects of environmental degradation and climate change, underscoring the need for shared responsibility and coordinated action; and

Whereas Northumberland County is dedicated to protection, conservation, and enhancement of its unique and valued natural elements through sound environmental stewardship and sustainable decision-making; and

Whereas long-term environmental health depends on collaboration among governments, organizations, and residents to protect natural landscapes and responsibly manage resources for present and future generations; and

Whereas Northumberland County strives to be a leader in municipal best practices by advancing initiatives that support sustainable growth and environmental preservation, in alignment with the strategic priority of ‘Propelling Sustainable Growth’ outlined in the County’s 2023-2027 Strategic Plan; and

Whereas Northumberland County is a registered municipal partner with Earth Day Canada and will mark Earth Day through locally-focused initiatives that encourage community participation and positive environmental action;

Now Therefore Be It Resolved That I, Warden Robert Crate, on behalf of Northumberland County Council do hereby proclaim Aprill 22, 2026 to be ‘Earth Day’ in Northumberland County.”
