Cobourg, ON – September 24, 2026 – Northumberland County is undertaking a Trail Network Study to develop a clear vision and framework for the future of recreational trails in the Northumberland County Forest.
The study will assess the existing trail network and identify opportunities to improve, expand and refine trails to better meet the needs of residents and visitors, while considering environmental considerations and forest management priorities.
Planning for the future of the trail network
A Trail Network Study is a formal planning document that looks at the existing trail system, how trails are being used and opportunities to improve the network over the next 10 years. The study will build on previous planning work, including Northumberland County’s 2009 Trails Network Study and the 2021–2041 Forest Management Plan.
