Student Assistant, Tourism & Economic Development
- Contract, full-time
- May 4, 2026, to August 28, 2026
- Hourly rate: $18.75 – $20.29 (35 hours per week)

Work location: 600 William Street, Cobourg
Reporting to the Business Development Coordinator, you will be working with the Economic Development and Tourism team. You will utilize your strong project coordination, research, communications and organizational skills to assist with supporting multiple projects and functions within the department. You will review websites, update information, and communicate with businesses to get a complete understanding of their product and service offerings. You will collaborate with the team to create a schedule and populate a content calendar. You will create content which includes writing copy, taking photos, recording audio and filming and editing short form videos. You will also assist with administrative duties and updating the tourism department’s business directory and events calendar. You will assist with communication with businesses, organizations and the public, along with other administrative duties.
Major areas of responsibility
- Support Tourism and Economic Development projects through research, coordination, and administrative assistance.
- Assist with Business & Entrepreneurship Centre Northumberland (BECN) programs, workshops, events.
- Maintain and update tourism and business directories, events calendars, and related web content.
- Engage with local businesses to collect capturing photos and short-form video, testimonials, and content showcasing businesses, communities, and events across Northumberland County.
- Obtain and manage photo/video consent as required for digital content use.
- Create and support digital content, including written copy, photography, and basic video editing.
- Assist in developing and populating content calendars for Tourism and BECN initiatives.
- Tag, upload, organize, and archive digital assets across multiple platforms.
- Provide general administrative and project support to the Economic Development and Tourism team.
Qualifications & skills
- Related post-secondary education is preferred.
- You have strong verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, and can work independently.
- Communication and marketing skills are considered an asset.
- First Aid/CPR training is considered an asset.
- You must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel, have experience with photo editing, digital marketing and social media as well as have knowledge of content creation best practices.
- You are familiar with Northumberland County’s attractions and tourism experiences.
- Must be able to work occasional evenings, weekends and holidays, when required.
- You must be a fully licensed Class G driver and have appropriate safety footwear.
An acceptable driver’s abstract (3-year uncertified driver’s record) must be submitted with your application.
Eligibility requirements
- A student is defined as a person between the ages of 18-30 at the start of the employment; registered as a full-time student in the current academic year (2025/2026) and intends to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year (2026/2027). As a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment, you are legally entitled to work in Canada. You must be available to work from May 4 to August 28, 2026.
