Student Assistant, Health, Safety & Emergency Planning
Currently, we are looking to fill the following student vacancy:
Student Assistant, Health, Safety & Emergency Planning
- Contract, full-time
- May 4, 2026, to August 28, 2026
- Hourly rate: $18.75 – $20.29 (35 hours per week)
- Work location: 555 Courthouse Road, Cobourg
Reporting to the Health, Safety and Emergency Risk Manager, the Student Assistant, Health, Safety and Emergency Planning will assist the Health and Safety Coordinator and Emergency Planning Coordinator to develop, deliver, and maintain the Corporate Health, Safety, and Emergency Management Programs.
Duties & responsibilities
- Review health and safety policies; researching legislation for revisions and updates;
- Work with Health and Safety Coordinator to update the Risk Assessments/Workplace Hazards;
- Assist with training and orientation to schedule trainer and room bookings, RSVP lists for training, photocopy training material;
- Assist the Wellness Committee with scheduling, Jostle postings, promotional material;
- Audit compliance for Joint Health and Safety Committees;
- Assist with the health and safety initiative in drafting Safety Talks, distributing communications to other departments
- Index filing injury reports;
- Work with the Emergency Planning Coordinator to update the Emergency Plan;
- Work with Emergency Planning Coordinator to design emergency exercises, perform Hazard Identification Risk Analysis;
- Assist in the development and implementation of Emergency Preparedness for Public Education.
- Assist with Customer Care Representative duties.
Qualifications & skills
- Pursuing post-secondary education in Emergency Management or Health and Safety discipline
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Proficiency with database applications and administration systems, specifically Microsoft Office Suite.
- Enthusiasm for challenge and new initiatives.
- Highly motivated, service and team-oriented individual with an attention to detail.
- Enthusiasm for challenge and new initiatives.
- Ability to ensure confidentiality and understand the information that cannot be passed along to others.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal skills.
- You must be a fully licensed Class G driver with access to your own vehicle.
An acceptable driver’s abstract (3-year uncertified driver’s record) must be submitted with your application. Resumes submitted without an acceptable driver’s abstract will not be reviewed.
Eligibility requirements
A student is defined as a person between the ages of 18-30 at the start of the employment; registered as a full-time student in the current academic year (2025/2026) and intends to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year (2026/2027). As a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment, you are legally entitled to work in Canada. You must be available to work from May 4 to August 28, 2026.
