Observed annually on August 1, Emancipation Day recognizes the abolition of slavery across the British Empire in 1834. It is a time to reflect on Canada’s history of enslavement, recognize the enduring contributions of Black communities, and learn more about the ongoing pursuit of equity and inclusion.
