Public input sought for County Road 64 (Prince Edward Street) reconstruction in Brighton
Cobourg, ON – July 7, 2022 - Northumberland County, in collaboration with the Municipality of Brighton, is undertaking a study to plan for the reconstruction of County Road 64 and is seeking public input on proposed improvements.
Located in the Municipality of Brighton, County Road 64—also known as Prince Edward Street—is a primary route through the municipality connecting to Prince Edward County and provides a north-south route for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists where, in the urban areas of Brighton.
County Road 64 and the underground infrastructure of Prince Edward Street are nearing their end of life and require upgrades or replacement. Following the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process, the County and Municipality are conducting a study to develop alternatives and establish a preferred design. As part of the process, a public information session is being planned for Wednesday, July 27 where several potential improvements will be presented such as upgraded sidewalks, traffic calming features, intersection upgrades and paved shoulders for cyclists.
The study will confirm the condition of the existing roadway and identify opportunities for improvements to safety, accessibility, and active transportation. The proposed reconstruction work will extend from Elizabeth Street in downtown Brighton down Prince Edward Street to Harbour Street and along County Road 64 for approximately 7 kms to Stoney Point Road.
Join in the Conversation: On Wednesday, July 27 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. representatives from the County and the Municipality will host a public information session. Draft plans will be presented where the public can comment on what they would like to see by way of improvements and help shape preferred alternatives for implementation.
Members of the public are encouraged to either attend this session in person at the Brighton Council Chambers—35 Alice Street, Brighton —or join online to participate virtually.
