Cobourg, ON – December 22, 2022 –  Environment Canada has issued a warning for a major winter storm due to hit our region staring Friday and over the holiday weekend. Heavy rainfall will begin today, with Friday bringing the possibility of flash freezing, snow, damaging wind gusts creating blizzard-like conditions, and potential power outages.

With travel advisories and power outages possible, it is recommended that community members take this time to prepare by understanding the risks and having a plan in place, including having sufficient supplies to last a minimum of 72 hours. This includes items such as canned food and water, blankets, prescription medication, flashlights, and batteries. Visit the County at  Northumberland.ca/BePrepared for emergency preparedness measures, including a full list of recommended supplies for a 72-hour kit, an emergency car kit, and an emergency pet care kit.

County road crews and emergency services will be operational during this time, unless otherwise communicated. Any impacts to critical services as a result of the storm will be communicated via the County’s website, Twitter and Facebook accounts. As always, if you find yourself in a life-threatening situation, please call 911.

To stay informed of local updates throughout the storm, follow the County, local municipalities, hydro providers, and emergency services via their websites and social media accounts. The County will also be sharing updates with local media, so stay tuned to local news sources for critical service updates or emergency information throughout the storm.
