Proclamation – World Parkinson’s Day, April 11, 2022
Event: World Parkinson’s Day
Date: April 11, 2022
“Whereas in 1817, James Parkinson published “An Essay on the Shaking Palsy”, which was the first such recognition of a disease that eventually would be known by his name; and
Whereas on April 11, the birthdate of James Parkinson, the Parkinson’s community raises awareness about Parkinson’s disease, which is a neurodegenerative disorder, and the day is an opportunity for people with Parkinson’s, scientists, fundraisers and families, carers and clinicians, to come together and tell the story of Parkinson’s; and
Whereas various in-person and virtual events across North America and around the globe will seek to bring greater understanding of this disorder, which affects an estimated 7 to 10 million people worldwide, and, which is the fastest-growing neurological condition in the world;
Therefore Be It Resolved That I, Warden Bob Crate, on behalf of Northumberland County Council, do hereby recognize April 11, 2022 as World Parkinson’s Day, in the County of Northumberland.”
Dated this 4th day of April, 2022
