Proclamation – Transgender Awareness Week, November 13 – 19, 2025

“Whereas Transgender Awareness Week is observed annually from November 13 to 19, providing an important opportunity to amplify the voices and experiences of transgender, Two Spirit, Non-Binary, and Intersex individuals; and

Whereas this week of reflection and education culminates in the Transgender Day of Remembrance on November 20 – a solemn occasion to honour the memory of those whose lives have been tragically lost due to anti-transgender violence and discrimination; and

Whereas the lived experiences of gender-diverse people continue to expose the systematic barriers, inequities, and stigma that persist within institutions and communities across the country; and

Whereas Northumberland County reaffirms its commitment to advancing equity and inclusion, promoting greater public understanding, and actively addressing transphobia in all its forms, in order to foster safe, welcoming spaces for everyone regardless of gender identity or expression;

Now Therefore Be It Resolved That I, Warden Brian Ostrander, on behalf of Northumberland County Council do hereby proclaim Northumberland 13 to 19, 2025 to be Transgender Awareness Week and the day of November 20, 2025 as Transgender Day of Remembrance in Northumberland County.”
