Proclamation – Transgender Awareness Week and Transgender Day of Remembrance, November 13 – 20,2023

"Whereas Transgender Awareness Week is observed annually from November 13 – 19, recognizing, supporting, and honouring the trans community and bringing attention to the stories and experiences of transgender people; and

Whereas the week-long observance leads to the Transgender Day of Remembrance on November 20, an annual day of remembrance for those who have lost their lives due to acts of transphobic violence and systematic oppression; and

Whereas the stories of transgender individuals and communities brings light to the social and systematic barriers that transgender and gender diverse communities continue to face across the country; and

Whereas Northumberland County is committed to continuing to engage in education and challenging transphobia in order to nurture diversity and build safe and diverse communities; 

Now Therefore Be It Resolved That I, Warden Mandy Martin, on behalf of Northumberland County Council do hereby proclaim November 13 – 19 to be Transgender Awareness Week and the date of November 20^th as Transgender Day of Remembrance in Northumberland County."
