Proclamation – Rail Safety Week, September 19-25, 2022

“Whereas Rail Safety Week is to be held across Canada from September 19 - 25, 2022; and

Whereas it is in the public’s interest to raise citizens’ awareness of the damages of ignoring safety warnings at level crossings and trespassing on rail property to reduce avoidable deaths, injuries and damages caused by incidents involving trains and citizens; and

Whereas Operation Lifesaver is a public/private partnership whose aim is to work with the public, rail industry, governments, police services, media, and others to raise rail safety awareness; and

Whereas it is prudent for Northumberland County to adopt this resolution in support of its ongoing efforts to raise awareness, save lives and prevent injuries in communities, including our municipality; and

Whereas busy freight and passenger rail lines extend throughout Northumberland County;

Now Therefore Be It Resolved That I, Warden Robert Crate, on behalf of Northumberland County Council do hereby proclaim September 19 - 25, 2022 as Rail Safety Week in Northumberland County, and remind all citizens that rail safety is everyone’s responsibility.”
