Proclamation – Pride Month, June 2022

"Whereas June is recognized as Pride Month in Canada and around the world as an opportunity to celebrate the contributions of LGBTQ2S+ individuals across Canada; to reflect on the trials the LGBTQ2S+ community has endured and overcome; and to recommit to the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion in our community; and

Whereas Northumberland County celebrates the diversity of gender and sexual minority communities including Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning, TwoSpirit, and more; and

Whereas it is important to reflect on the progress made to recognize and protect the rights of the LGBTQ2S+ community, while acknowledging there is still much work to be done; and

Whereas awareness and education are vital to end discrimination and violence based on gender identity and sexual orientation;

Now Therefore Be It Resolved that I, Warden Robert Crate, on behalf of Northumberland County Council do hereby proclaim the month of June 2022 to be Pride Month in Northumberland County."
