Proclamation – International Holocaust Remembrance Day, January 27, 2026
Event: International Holocaust Remembrance Day
Date: January 27, 2026
“Whereas International Holocaust Remembrance Day is marked each year on January 27, recognizing the date in 1945 when the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration and extermination camp was liberated; and
Whereas this day provides a moment of solemn reflection to honour the six million Jews and the millions of other victims who suffered and perished during the Holocaust, and to support global efforts to educate present and future generations about this dark period in human history; and
Whereas Canadian’s, along with communities around the world, take this opportunity to remember those whose lives were taken and to reaffirm the lessons learned from the Holocaust, strengthening our collective resolve hatred, bigotry, and intolerance wherever they appear; and
Whereas Northumberland County reaffirms its dedication to promoting inclusion, standing firmly against antisemitism, and rejecting all forms of discrimination and hate;
Now Therefore Be It Resolved That I, Warden Robert Crate, on behalf of Northumberland County Council do hereby proclaim January 27, 2026 to be ‘International Holocaust Remembrance Day’ in Northumberland County.”
Dated this 21st day of January, 2026
Warden, Bob Crate
