Event: Black History Month

Date: February 2026

“Whereas The month of February is observed nationwide as Black History Month, providing a dedicated time to recognize and celebrate the diverse histories, achievements, and cultural contributions of Black Canadians, whose influence has played a vital role in shaping Canada’s development and prosperity; and

Whereas Black Canadians have been central to the story of our nation, contributing to Canada’s cultural fabric, identify, and progress, and Black History Month offers an important opportunity to learn from their experiences, honour their enduring legacy, and strengthen a sense of belonging and inclusion within our communities; and

Whereas Northumberland County acknowledges that education, awareness, and open dialogue are essential to understanding and addressing systematic barriers, confronting historical injustices, and advancing equity for all community members; and

Whereas Northumberland County recognizes that building a truly inclusive community requires both celebrating diversity and actively challenging racism, discrimination, and prejudice in all their forms, ensuring that every resident has the opportunity to participate fully and thrive; and

Whereas Northumberland County reaffirms its commitment to working collaboratively with community organizations, leaders, and residents to promote inclusion, strengthen equitable opportunities, and foster a future where all individuals are respected and valued;

Now Therefore Be It Resolved That I, Warden Robert Crate, on behalf of Northumberland County Council do hereby proclaim February 2026 to be ‘Black History Month’ in Northumberland County.”
