Inauguration of County Council and election of 2023 Warden and Deputy Warden
Cobourg, ON – December 14, 2022 – Today, the inaugural meeting of Northumberland County Council launched the 2022-2026 term of office. Newly elected councillors took the Declaration of Office prior to assuming their seat on council. The members of the 2022—2026 Northumberland County Council include:
- Lucas Cleveland, Mayor, Town of Cobourg
- Bob Crate, Mayor, Municipality of Trent Hills
- Olena Hankivsky, Mayor, Municipality of Port Hope
- Scott Jibb, Mayor, Township of Hamilton
- John Logel, Mayor, Township of Alnwick/Haldimand
- Mandy Martin, Mayor, Township of Cramahe
- Brian Ostrander, Mayor, Municipality of Brighton
During this inaugural meeting, Cramahe Township Mayor Mandy Martin was elected to serve as the 2023 Warden for Northumberland County after receiving unanimous endorsement from all members of council.
“It is a privilege to step into this leadership role, and I am grateful for the full support of council,” Warden Martin remarked during her inaugural address. “These are challenging and uncertain times. But by working as a team, relying on the advice of staff, engaging with our residents, and strengthening community partnerships, we will be successful in delivering quality programs and essential services for our residents.”
Warden Martin is a resident of Colborne, now serving her second term as Mayor of the Township of Cramahe. Raised in Gore’s Landing, she pursued a 40-year career in communications, marketing and journalism before entering the political sphere. Her dedication to community development extends to extensive volunteer activities supporting numerous community associations and serving on boards.
Council furthermore voted in a Deputy Warden for the first year of this new term, unanimously electing Brian Ostrander, Mayor of Brighton.
“I am honoured by the confidence and trust council has placed in me to take on these additional responsibilities,” commented Deputy Warden Ostrander. “There are a lot of rapid changes and new policies being introduced from all levels of government. We’ve been successful in the past at overcoming hurdles, innovating, and advancing key priorities in order to deliver value to the community, and I am confident that we will continue with such good governance over this term.”
Deputy Warden Ostrander’s career has spanned almost three decades in the printing and publishing industry. He was first elected to Brighton Council in 2003, and is now serving his second term, as Mayor. He is very active in his community, serving on several boards and committees, and is committed to consensus building and bringing people together.
