Celebrate Paramedic Services Week with the Northumberland Paramedics at the Cobourg Farmers Market

May 15, 2025

Cobourg, ON – May 15, 2025 – During Paramedic Services Week, from May 18 – 24, Northumberland Paramedics invite the community to celebrate the vital work they do every day. This year’s theme, “We Care. For Everyone,” highlights the many roles paramedics play across a person’s lifespan – from emergency response to community-based, preventative care.

To mark the occasion, Northumberland Paramedics will host a family-friendly celebration at the Cobourg Farmers Market on Saturday, May 24, at Rotary Harbourfront Park. Community members of all ages are invited to attend.

Guests will have the opportunity to:

  • Tour the inside of an ambulance
  • Meet local paramedics and learn more about their work
  • Discover how paramedics support health and safety across all stages of life

Children are encouraged to bring their favourite teddy bear or stuffed animal for a gentle “check-up” by the Northumberland Teddy Bear Response Team – a playful way to introduce children to medical care in a safe comforting environment. During the check-up, the team will help build trust, encourage conversation, and provide age-appropriate education about medical procedures in a fun and engaging way. These small learning moments help increase a child’s comfort in real-life emergencies.

EarlyON Child and Family Centres will also be on site, offering engaging games and hand-on activities for children and families.

As a special treat, attendees can meet Ivy Joules, the paramedic therapy dog, and Terry the Traumasarus, the paramedics’ mascot. Both will be available for photos from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

“Paramedic Services Week is a time to celebrate the dedication and heart that our paramedics bring to their work every day,” says Northumberland Paramedics Chief Susan Brown. “Whether responding to emergencies, supporting community wellness programs, or helping children learn through play, our team is committed to helping everyone – at every stage of life.”

This event is a chance to recognize the dedication, compassion, and professionalism of Northumberland Paramedics – and to learn more about the many ways they serve our community every day.
