Our goal: Enlist 10,000 community champions to shift a portion of their spending to Northumberland businesses.

Take the pledge
Why buy local?
Buying local doesn’t just benefit local business owners — it has many valuable benefits for you and the broader community.

Keep your neighbours employed
Local spending helps create and sustain jobs for your neighbours, friends, and family.

Boost the local economy
Every dollar spent at a local business is invested directly back into your hometown community — supporting local services, infrastructure and charities.

Better for you, better for the environment
Buying local often means less transportation and packaging, and a smaller carbon footprint. This reduces environmental impacts and is more convenient — no more driving over an hour away or waiting for delivery! Get what you need and get it sooner by shopping local.

Locally produced and hand-picked goods
Explore locally-produced and specially-sourced products and services, curated by local business owners specifically for Northumberland residents. See what makes Northumberland unique and support the character of our community.
How to participate
Commit to redirecting $10-$100 of your monthly spending toward local businesses. It’s a small shift that makes a big impact.
Help provide valuable insight by completing our research surveys:
- Local shoppers: Share your local shopping habits, preferences and what would encourage you to shop local more often.
- Business owners: Share your feedback on the impacts of trade tariffs, your business-to-business shopping habits and supports that would help you thrive.
Please note these surveys are now closed.
Choose local retailers, restaurants, and service providers whenever possible. From farmers markets to family-run shops, your options are unlimited!
Use the hashtag #BuyNoCo on social media to share your favourite local spots and encourage friends and family to take the pledge.

About Northumberland Buy Local
The Northumberland Buy Local campaign is an initiative led by Prosper in Northumberland — a collaboration of over 30 representatives from local businesses, associations, municipalities, and community members united to respond to rising economic challenges from international trade disputes and the wave of Canadian pride sweeping the nation.
