Defibrillator Program
Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) can help save lives when combined with early CPR.
Public Access Defibrillation Program
Thanks to the generous support of community members, donations raised throughout the year help fund the purchase of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) for the Northumberland area. Once enough funds have been collected, an AED is donated to a not-for-profit organization, helping make our community safer and more prepared.
Organizations may apply for an AED donation if they meet the following criteria:
- Must be not-for-profit
- Must have a focus on sport or physical activity
- Must operate within the boundaries of Northumberland County
The lifesaving importance of AEDs
Here are some of the reasons why more communities are investing in AEDs and making early defibrillation a part of their emergency response plans:
- Defibrillation within three minutes of sudden cardiac arrest increases the chance of survival to 70%
- Defibrillation within one minute of sudden cardiac arrest increases the chance of survival to 90%
- Chances of successful defibrillation decrease by 10% with every minute that passes in a cardiac arrest
