DESCRIPTION:What is Earth Day?\nEach year since 1970\, Earth Day has been celebrated globally on April 22nd. As environmental challenges and climate change continue to be experienced at both a local and global level\, it is important to work together to take action towards a more sustainable future in order to preserve our local assets for generations to come.\n\nNorthumberland County is committed to promoting and supporting actions to improve sustainability\, preserve natural assets and create a healthier environment. As a municipal partner for Earth Day Canada\, we will be organizing local community-based initiatives to help make a positive impact on the environment in recognition of Earth Day.\n How to get involvedThe Mayors’ Keep the County Clean Challenge – April 20 – 25\, 2026\nFrom April 20th – 25th\, municipalities participate in a week-long litter clean-up campaign in an effort to keep the County clean from litter from roadsides\, parks\, ditches\, etc. Community members are encouraged to register with their local municipality in order to pick up bags\, gloves and safety vests.\n How to register\nRegistration is now open\, to register please contact your areas representative listed below:\n\nTownship of Alnwick Haldimand: Susan Smith at 905-349-2700\n\nMunicipality of Brighton: Gord Fletcher at 613-475-1162\n\nTown of Cobourg: Register online at cobourg.ca/cleanup\n\nTownship of Cramahe: Janet Newall at 905-355-2821 ext. 222\n\nTownship of Hamilton: Julie Tang at 905-342-2810 ext. 101\n\nMunicipality of Port Hope: Ashley at 905-753-2230\n\nMunicipality of Trent Hills: Erin or Kaylee at 705-653-1900 or customers@trenthills.ca\n The 20-Minute Makeover\nOn Friday\, April 24th\, community members are encouraged to spend a few minutes cleaning up an area in their neighbourhood\, such as their school yard\, place of work or a local park.
